MIG welding has grown in popularity in recent years, thanks to the speed and ease of use that it presents to users. There has been a surge in amateurs trying their hand at this particular type of welding, and the technique is still used across several professional industries. With a range of CO2/Argon mixes available as MIG welding gas, it’s essential to choose the right mix for your application to ensure high-quality welds every time.
As welding gas suppliers, we understand the necessary role MIG welder gas plays in ensuring each weld comes out with a high-quality finish. We are proud to provide a wide range of CO2 and Argon gas for MIG welding.
Specialist MIG Welding Gas Suppliers
As vastly experienced MIG welding gas suppliers, we have fine-tuned our offering to include a wide range of products suitable for all of your requirements, whether you’re a hobbyist or a professional welder. We have a huge selection of MIG welding gas on offer, in a range of cylinder sizes to suit all applications. Choose from:
- 2L cylinders for easy portability
- 10L cylinders well suited to hobbyists
- 20L cylinders for professional welders
- 50L cylinders for industrial applications
Many of our cylinders are refillable, with no charge for bottle rental, environmental charges or cylinder collection fees. In addition, all cylinders are thoroughly maintained and regularly tested for faults, and deposits are fully refundable on return of the cylinder at any time.
MIG Welding Gas Mix
We have a range of CO2 and argon gas for MIG welding, suitable for metals of varying thicknesses. Using argon gas with small amounts of CO2 helps to stabilise the welding arc, allowing for neater and softer welds. As welding gas suppliers, we stock the following mixes:
Suitable for MIG welding, 2% CO2 and Argon mix is ideal for focusing on low splatter, good weld quality and appearance. Post-weld clean up is reduced, with puddle control and less spatter than CO2 in its pure form. This mix is ideal for up to 10mm steel and can be used in all positions, making it a good candidate for welding safely in confined spaces. It is also suitable for pulsed arc welding and robotic use.
This is suitable for welding steel up to a thickness of 6mm. Argon’s ability to conduct electricity better than CO2 provides a desirable, stable welding arc for a very clean weld. This MIG welding gas mix is useful for thin materials, fillet and butt welds, and along with the 2% CO2 mix, is recommended for highly specialised welding applications.
Experienced MIG welders will recommend a mix of between 75-95% argon and 25-5% CO2 mix, depending on your steel thickness. The higher concentrations of CO2 are popular due to their deep penetration and aesthetic qualities. This mix is suitable for welding steel thicknesses between 4mm – 10mm. This mix will give a very stable welding arc and a good weld appearance.
Our 20% CO2 and argon mix offers strong arc stability and is primarily suitable for welding steel thickness between 6mm – 14mm. This mix is beneficial for arc stability but does risk more spatter due to the higher level of CO2 in the mix. Wire speed can help mitigate this.
We also have a wide range of cylinder sizes containing 99.9% CO2 welding gas, which offer a cost-effective solution for MIG welder gas. This type of gas is an excellent entry-level product for people looking to get into MIG welding or those for whom cost is the primary concern.
MIG Weld Aluminium with One of Our Pure Argon Cylinders
We also offer pure argon as a MIG welding gas option that is best used when welding aluminium or MIG brazing copper. It can be used as a last resort when welding steel, but the weld quality will often be much lower than when using a mixed gas cylinder of CO2 and argon. We have a wide range of 100% argon cylinders which are also suitable as TIG welding gas, and an extensive oxy-fuel range for those who regularly cut, braze, solder and heat metal.
